AMA - You Ask, Bethany Answers!

Hey, loves! We’re back for another AMA – yay! For anyone new, every Tuesday I answer 3-5 (or however many questions is in my doc, if not at least 3) of your burning questions as best and as honestly as I can.

Some things to note – I do these AMAs approximately a month ahead of time if I have enough questions in my form to do so. I like to be ahead of myself so that I never get behind, haha. But that means if you’re wondering where your question might be, please be patient. If your question is not the same question I have already answered fifteen or more times (hello Andino, Zeke, Cece, etc), then it is simply in the queue.

Do you have a question for me?

Awesome.

Drop it in the form HERE.

Now, onto the questions for the week.

1. Dear Bethany, I can not find words to describe how much I love all-all your books, AMA and outtakes. I saved the January 4th outtake with Antony "Full Circle". Each time I read it, it's more emotional. I even re-read Antony and Lucian to even get more understanding and remembrance of his friendship and love for John. My question is: I was just wondering, being that Antony began this "Filthy Legacy" and knowing as we read the outtakes, that time has moved on. Is it possible to get an outtake with the family paying homage and saying a good-bye to the awesome man that started it all? I would love to see his boys have grown old gracefully, Andino the Boss, all the grandchildren, great-grands, etc......

Hi there, and thank you for the kind words. This kind of sounded like an outtake request, and I do have a form for that, so when I post it, I highly recommend you put any requests like that in there. BUT … this also felt like it needed a response because clearly you love Antony so much, so I am doing it as a full question in the AMA too.

I will never write a scene of someone being dead that had their own book – so Antony and Cecelia had their own book, and you will never see a scene where I actually write on page THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD NOW. Because for every one reader that would love to see something like a funeral scene or something happy of that nature saying goodbye to these people, I have ten other readers who would literally never forgive me for saying their favorite is dead on-page.

And that’s just how it shakes out for me with that.

It is very possible that I may do something a little different for Antony – perhaps an anniversary party/birthday celebration (although, he stopped allowing people to throw birthdays for him after a certain age, so a little planning would be in order for that) where-in you see him appreciating his kingdom and legacy, so to speak.

I will never write people saying goodbye to him, however. And I will not write him dead.

2. Your new schedule says the Astors won't be early 2020? WHY?

No, they will be mid- to late-2020 now. I just decided to change my release schedule a bit to give myself a bit of breathing room between releases. I know it’s all great and fun for readers to be able to get monthly releases from me, and sometimes I enjoy that too … but it’s not fun when you do it for 9+ months in a row. I don’t get a break. A book comes out and within that week, I have to start promoting the next book.

In the midst of that, I am writing another book. Editing a different book. Proofing another book. Getting cover art and graphics done by my artist. Getting all my blog posts in order for the next month. Plotting another book.

See what I am getting at here?

This is a lot of work. So giving myself an extra month here and there allows me time to stay ahead of myself, or catch up … or even, hell, enjoy real time off when I want to take it. So yeah, that’s why I moved that schedule around a little bit, just to give myself some breathing room.

The Astors are still coming – they will still publish a couple (or three) books in 2020. It will not be the whole series, however, as that will go into 2021.

Hope that explains it.

3. What kind of music do you listen to while writing? Or do you?

Um, I listen to a lot of different music when I write. I actually have a playlist called “Writing” on Youtube that is public so anyone can see it. I often add or remove from it, but right now it stands at like seventy plus songs or there abouts.

I usually listen to certain stretches of different parts of the playlist when I’m writing. Some days I feel like listening to the first 15 songs on repeat, other days I listen mid-playlist, and then today I listened to the last portion of it. So, it really changes, that’s why the playlist is so long, etc.

And if you check out the playlist, you will see I enjoy all kinds of music. I don’t listen to just one genre, I listen to a lot of genres. I clearly have favorite artists (hello, Halsey and NF) but I don’t stick to just one genre of music. I am all over the place, and proud of it, haha.

I also tend to listen to a lot of makeup/beauty influencers and Shane Dawson, as well as Alexandria Ryan when I am writing. They do different series/things on YouTube, and I greatly enjoy just having background noise in my ears when I am writing because it lets me focus on something else instead of the constant noise in my house. So yeah, some days (or depending on what I am writing that day) I will listen to them instead of music.

Okay, loves.

That’s all for this week, until the next!

BK.
